The League

I recently started watching the short television series the League showed on FX. This show is actually a lot more funny then I originally thought. There are four main characters which all have a very large role in the show. What I just recently realized is that they are all white males. There is almost no diversity in this show at all. Usually there is at least one character that is of a different race. For example the show, That 70's show, has fez, the one different character when all the rest of the characters are white. Do you know any other shows that lack diversity?

Mahalo in Hawaii

I have been in hawaii for a couple weeks now and I have picked up on something. It seems that people here use almost no hawaiin launguage except for the word Mahalo, which means thank you. I really cant stand it because they should choose if they want to speak english or not. I hate that they just try to put one word in and make you think that if you use this one word then you are respecting the hawaiin launguage, maybe even more. So while I am here I refuse to say the word Mahalo. Do you know any place that has something like what I am talking about ere?

Diversity in Sports

I was thinking of something to write about while watching the the football game. Then I realized that there is cultural diversity in sports. But it is a little different then comparing some minorities. It seems to me that in many sports there are a lot more african american players then white players. This isnt the case in all sports but it defenitely is when talking about football and basketball. I wastrying to think why there are certain statistics of different races in different sports and couldnt really come up with anything. Do any of you know why there are more of one race in certain sports or even have any theories?

Advertising in Hawaii

I got to Hawaii about a week ago now and have realized that advertisements are a lot different here then at home. There is a lot of advertisement directed towards Hawaiians and not as much towards other races. There is some since a lot of the sales in Hawaii are based on tourism. But I just thought it was kind of cool how a lot of the things are different here. Some of the things that are different include food, music, and language. Obviously as soon as you go somewhere else in the world everything changes when it comes to diversity in the media, but I just thought it was cool. Have any of you huys gone somewhere where the advertising and media was based on a different culture other then your own?

Call Of Duty 2

I recently have been playing the new Call of Duty. I know I recently had posted about diversity in video games, but I felt this was worth writing about. In the game you have generals and other authority figures. I find that there are litte to no authority figures that arent white males. I dont know if there is a reason for this but I started to realize it more and more throughout the game. I wondered what was keeping the poeple that made the game from making the head authority figures more culturally diverse. Do you play any video games that are like this, and have the same lack of diversity?

George Lopez

I dont watch too much television but came across a show that kind of made me think, at least in terms of this class. George Lopez is now hosting a late night show. This made me think a little to if there has ever really been a minority hosting any late night shows. I cant really think of any. I mean some of the big name sthat come to mind when I think of late night shows are Lettermen, Leno, and Obrien. Thes eare all white males. I nver really thiought of it before. Do you think that there is a reason why there hasnt been any minority late night hosts in the past. or maybe there has been and I stand corrected. let me know what you guys think.

Sons of Anarchy

I have been watching this new show, Sons of Anarchy. Its actually really good and I enjoy ity a lot. When I came to my blog to find something to write about I was stumped for a few before coming up with this show. When I tried to think about how the show can relate to this calss i finally realized it. In the show there are different biker clubs. The sons of anarchy and like a few more that they have shown so far. The sons of anarchy are almost 100 percent white. The other groups that they have shown are black and mexican. They also have a nazi group that is involve din the show. This is a pretty diverse group of people involved in one show. I was surprised how diverse it was. Do any of you guys watch any shows that have either a lot or barely any diversity in it?

Diversity in CMA

Well, I was listening to the radio today on the way to school and I heard them talking about the Country Music Awards that had occurred the previous night. They were talking about how Taylor Swift won like everything she was nominated for. They were also making fun of Kanye because of what he did at the VMAs. It made me realize that there is little to no diversity in country music. I mean I dont care too much because I hate country music to begin with. But I tried to think of other music genres that have less diversity and couldn't think of one. Maybe its just me but am I wrong. Is there any cultural diversity in Country Music?

CNN, Latinos in America

I was fliiping through the channels theother night and found this show on CN called Latinos in America. This is a story about a family, the Garcias. They consist of a mom a dad, and two children. The two parents started in New York City where they lived since they had arrived in America. Then they decided to move to Georgia where they would raise a family. where they lived in New York was a complete Latino neighborhood with a lot of Latino culture in all types of different ways. They complain about how their kids are growing up with little to no Latino culture in their life. This kind of annoys me. I understand how the parents would want some Latino culture in their life, but they need to underdstand that their kids are 100 percent american. This is their culture for the most part now. They arent going to be 100 latino in everyday life. They are going to do and like the things that surround them and the people they surround themselves with. If they wanted their children to have Latino culture that bad, they would of stayed in New York.

Dont be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood

When I was a kid my friends and I loved the movie, Dont be amenace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood. This flick is absolutely ridiculous and stresses black stereotypes to the absolute extreme. It is a great movie and is hilarious, butthis isnt a surprise because it was written by the wayans brothers. It basically brings different black urban stereotypes to humor and it works perfectly. A great quote by a police officer basically tells it all in this outrageous movie

You ain't so tough now, little nigga. I hate your black bastards, you *stink*! I hate your black skin. I hate your black pants. I hate black pepper. I hate black keys on a piano. I hate my gums, because they're black. I hate Whoopi Goldberg's *lips*. I hate the back of Forrest Whittaker's neck. Huh? Most of all, I hate that black-ass Wesley Snipes.

Can yu guys think of any other films that revolve around some type of race and their stereotypes that are humorous?

South Park is Back

The new season of South Park is upon us. There have been two episodes and they have both been really good. South Parks humor much like other humor revolves around offensive material. The first episode is a spin off of the movie The Sixth Sense, with Ike. But instead of seeing dead people he is seeing dead celebreties. Since there have been a high number of celebrity deaths this is a good topic. Some of the people included in the episode were Billy Mayes, D.J. AM, and even Michael Jackson. There were also many more to name. I think that the more offensive the humor is, the better the show is overall. Do you think that there is a line between offensive and funny. If so where is that line? Personally I dont believe the line should exist if it does.

Cool Advertising Technique

This is a picture of Donatos pizza in Columbus Ohio. They have taken their advertisement to a new level. This is a replica a little larger then the actual pizza they serve. But Is very life like and is even agled at the pizza shop so that it looks like the steam is actually coming off the pizza billboard. This is a cool advertising technique that doesnt cost a whole lot extra. I can think of some other places that have taken on advertising techniques such as these. Can you think of any other cool advertising techniques used by places these days?

Blind,black,white supremacist

This skit by Dave Chappelle has broughten comedic racism and stereotypes to a whole new level. This skit is about a blind black man who thinks he is white. He is also one of the leading members of the Klu Klux Klan. but others dont know he is black and think he is white. The reporter tries to tell him that he is really white and the black man doesnt believe him. The whole video is him going off on how black people and all other races are bad, hitting every stereotype in the book. It is really ridicuolous and you need to watch and see . Here is a link to the video. This is the first skit of the Chappelle show and this is what kicked off Dave Chappelles carrer.

The Racial Draft

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=349514

This link is to a video from one of my favorite comedians, Dave Chappelle. Basically in this video there is a draft where the different races get to choose different important people from around the world. This video pushes stereotypes and makes fun of all races. Dave does a great job of making fun or everyone. Some funny examples that the video shows are Tiger Woods getting chosen by the black people, then he looses all of his endorsement deals because of being black. Another good one is when the Jews choose Lenny Kravitz, then they say he's not there and that he's in Miami Beach, and how he must of gotten the news of being Jewish early. The video touches many different races. They also make the characters look to the extreme of that racial group. Dave Chappelle is probably one of the best racial comedians there is.

Bad Boys....featuring Sean Penn

So I rented this movie called Bad Boys. No it isn't the one with will smith, where they take down all the drug lords in Miami. This is an older movie directed by Rick Rosenthal. The movie takes place mostly in a jail for kids. There are all types of kids in this jail, whites, Jews, blacks, and Latinos. The thing that I thought about after watching this movie. Is that all the different types of ethnicity's in the jail all were portrayed in basically the same manner. I mean of coarse they make some of the characters to seem much worse then others, but none of the characters were made look good. I liked the fact that all of the characters were portrayed this way. Can you think of any other movies where all different races are portrayed in the same fashion?

Minoritites in Video Games

I,ve realized that I have thought alot about minorities in television and in film, but not in video games. And now that I think of it, there is alot. For example in the new Call of Duty, you can play as this Russian character. He is portrayed as much to the extreme as anyone could ever. He talks with the sickest accent , seems extra violent and drinks a shitload.

Also in another game series, Grand Theft Auto, you always seem to be a minority. Wheater you are also a Russian immigrant or an African American. Also in this game series, they are portrayed to the max.

Can you think of any video games out there that have minorities in them that don't really portray them at all to any extreme.

I realize that this was a long time ago, but was thinking of it lately and felt it was an interesting topic. I would love to know how many african americans voted for Obama for the sole reason that he is black. Im sure there is some study out there going on right now about this fact alone. I mean I voted for Obama, but I only did it because I felt he was the best of the two candidates. Do you think that if he was white that he would of had the exact same chance of winning then being black?

The Cleavleand Show?

As you probably already know, Family Guy is going to have a spin off show for Cleveland. Ive read a lot of people saying that this show seems like it is going to be really boring because a lot of people aren't that interested in Cleveland's character very much. And a lot of people that wrote about it said that they would of loved to see a Quagmire spin off instead. This got me thinking. Family guy has put more racial stereotypes and has crossed the line harder then any TV show Ive come across. Is there something that the writers for Family guy are trying to make up. Maybe they have crossed the line one to many times and think making a show based around a black family will help them look a little less racist. I sure hope not. Family guy is too dam good of a show to just give in to the socially acceptable norms that some people see. I really want to think that they wouldn't stoop to this level. But who knows, anything is possible. Do you think that this spin off show is trying to make up for anything Family Guy has done in the past?

Kanye West.....Relax!!!

I usually don't watch television such as the MTV video music awards, but I came home tonight and my roommate was watching it. The first thing I see is Kanye West making himself look like an even more douche then he already is. Taylor Swift had just won an award and when she got up on stage to receive it, Kanye goes up and takes her mic before she can say her thanks. He then goes on a rant real quick on how he thinks Beyonce made the best video. I wondered in my head if this was some kind of race issue. It just looks like it because he is going up there to take the mic away from the whitest girl on earth and takes it to say how Beyonces video is so great. She happens to be black. I'm not sure if this is the reason why he did it, but either way it looks this way. Do you think race has any motivation in Kanyes bullshit rant? I'm not sure myself, but he seems like a piece of shit.

Smartphones

About 6 months ago, I had to buy a new phone, so I decided to test out apples new iPhone. I was aware that it did many things that other phones could not. Even though I went into this purchase with the open mind that the iPhone was pretty crazy, I was still blown away. The amount of free and pay for applications that you can get for this phone is amazing. Last week I bought a two dollar application that lets me stream live audio of any police and fire station across the country. I could never imagine as of a couple years ago, this being possible. I catch myself listening in on the LAPD because they seem to have a lot of action all the time. In the past couple times listening, I have listened in on so many crazy murders and hostage situations. It blows my mind that I have the right to do this. I never thought technology would be this advanced. How much farther are we going to be able to go?

Knowing

Last week I went to go see the new movie Knowing. The basis of the story told is the knowing prediction of the biggest disasters on Earth in the past 50 years, leading up to the biggest one of all, the end of the world. This Nicholas Cage thriller, does a great job of making you wonder what the hell is going to happen to all of us, if there ever is the end of the world as we know it. The movie was a lot better then I thought it was going to be. The way the movie was put together, and filmed, was very efficient. Along with some great action and special effects, Knowing, brings an all together good flick. I suggest you go see it.

Fuck Fox News

I rarely watch the news, nevermind go to a news site to watch global stories. Since I have a professor that likes to challenge, I went to Fox news to check out some global stories. The first thing I saw when entering the website was this slogan at the top that stated, "Fox news: fair and balanced". So as I watched the first story ever on foxnews.com I was thinking of this in the back of my head. I watched the story on a comedian and three uneducated individuals rank on Canada. The people didnt even come close to any relevance on the topic at hand. Instead they just bashed on Canada for retarded reasons. Is this really fair and balanced I said to myself. Fuck Fox News!!!

Google Earth

For a year or two now, I have been using the program google earth. It looks like in California they want to limit what google earth can see. They don't want google earth to show, schools, government buildings, places of worship , and other places like that. I think this is absurd. If they think that by not showing these place son google earth, this means terrorists aren't going to find them if they want to, then they are fucking retarded. If someone wants to do something they are going to do it. We need to stop living our lives in fear. Some things we can limit, but cant control. I really hope these idiots don't have a good pitch to the federal government. Because they suck too and they will probably buy this horse shit.

Arnold Smokes Ganja

Tonight I was watching comedy central. It was either the colbert report of the daily show. But either way they were showing how California is thinking about legalizing marijuana. Then they cut to a shot of Arnold smoking weed in one of his earlier films.

Marijuana should not be legalized. I mean look what the government has done with tobacco. It would be ten times worse if they did it with weed. They would make it chemically addictive, which it isnt currently. Also they would just tax the shit out of it and every pothead would be broke. Decriminalizing it was a huge step. Good thing I live in mass. This is basically as good as were ever going to get it when it comes to marijuana laws.

Fuck the FCC

I was fucking around on youtube as I do once in a while when I am bored out of my mind, and ran into this song called Fuck the FCC. Its pretty funny. It talks about the Janet Jackson titty incident and how that changed the way the FCC is. I really dont think it changed anything at all, but I agree with what they are saying overall. At the end of the song it tells you to go to FCCFU.com. So I did. When I got to this site I was surprised to see that it is a very large site supporting the first amendment. You should definitely check this site out. It has a lot of current events on different stuff involving freedom of speech. I couldnt get the video to load so here is the lyrics to the song.

Vegas advertising

Last week myself and my gambling partner, also financial advisor, took a trip out to our mecca, Las Veags. We had an awesome time, as does anyone in that great city. I figured I would try to actually talk about someting related to this class, so I picked advertising. There is no better place to see ridiculous amounts of asvertising then in Vegas. Some of the billboards are complete building sides. I guess therer is a great reason for this. Mostly because when people go to vegas they plan on spending a good amount of money. So the advertisers realize this and make the ads way more insane then they normally would. They also realize that if someone goes out there and wins a lot of free cash then they are more likely to buy shit that they really dont need. I on the other hand just buy shit I dont really need just because thats how I roll.(oh and dont tell anyone that we woke up with this showgirl dead in our hotel room, my financial advisor says that evrything will be o.k.)

Breaking Bad Season 2

I highly recomend that if you havent seen the show Breaking Bad you defiently should. The season 2 premier launched on sunday night. I watch very little television but look forward to this show on sundays.
The story line is about a chemistry teacher who gets lung cancer and only has so long to live. He has very little money and feels bad leaving his family behind with so little. So he gets together with an old student of his and starts cooking crystal meth and selling it for large sums of cash. Since he is a chemist he can cook better meth then the junkies can and everyone loves it. The second season started with a bang. Look into watching this show, you wont be dissapointed.

New South Park Season

I don't know if everyone has seen the new episode of South Park that recently aired on Wednesday. Unlike last season I feel that This season is going to be a lot better. Lets just say that South Park is up to their usual with crossing the line as much as possible.
I absolutely love how they brought in Mickey Mouse. He beat the shit out of the Jonnas Brothers and came out and said that Disney is selling sex to underage girls, but in a way that is acceptable. I loved this new episode. If you haven't seen it yet you have to. South Park has been running for sixteen seasons. This is crazy. I remember being in middle school waiting to see a new episode. How many other shows can you say that about.
